2025 has the potential to be the most profitable year in a long time – all due to the very important release of GTA VI. A game that, in theory, should become the next “pot of gold” for Rockstar for 10 years or more. Also, several continuation games or prequels of already known series could potentially be released at once. Let’s figure out how to plan your calendar for the most anticipated game releases of 2025.
Sniper Elite: Resistance
- 30 January
- PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC
In January, during the holidays, it is always worth completing what you started, and, perhaps, partially closing your backlog, but by the end of January, interesting releases begin. For example, Sniper Elite: Resistance. This is not the first game in the series about World War II snipers. And the developers have already perfected their profile – shooting from a sniper rifle.
There are classic slow-mo modes for viewing the impact of a bullet with X-ray vision on the target, and the ability to very finely adjust the sight for shooting from a very long distance. No surprises are expected this time either, only the plot and locations have changed – now the events will take place in France during the Nazi occupation. Ideal entertainment for a few evenings, fortunately the game will be available on Game Pass from the day of release.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- February 4
Next, the release of one of the potential games of the year is immediately expected. Plus, this is one of the few modern RPGs in a realistic medieval setting. There is no magic or dragons here, but there is excellent dialogue, a harsh open world to explore and a cycle of plot events.
According to the classic sequel, they want to do more and better in everything – the open world will be twice as large, the characters will be more realistic, and the gameplay will be more varied. We advise you to check for yourself whether the studio will create a new masterpiece that will set them apart from the rest of the releases in 2025, like the original Deliverance did.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC
- February 11
“Tsiva” is usually either adored or passed by. So if you are a fan of the series or you are potentially interested in trying yourself as a leader of a state in a strategy format, then, of course, you should pay attention to the long-awaited release of the new part.
Considering that for some fans the fifth “Civ” is still the best part, playing VII could be a reason to test whether it can become a new standard for the series. If there is no particular interest in the genre, then you should stay longer in the same Deliverance 2 or even pay attention to the next project on the list.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- February 14
The game was postponed and sent for revision. Judging by the new videos, this only benefited her. In the wake of rumors about Ubisoft’s difficult financial situation, the company could potentially invest a lot of resources into this project if only it would become financially successful.
It’s the RPG version of Assassin’s Creed again – the first since Valhalla, this time in feudal Japan, which fans have been asking for for so long. But this is only half the battle, because we need to release a truly interesting and technically flawless game that won’t be trashed by bloggers on social networks. It is this homework from Yves Guillemot that the entire Ubisoft is now doing.
Avowed
- Xbox Series X|S, PC
- February 18
A Microsoft console exclusive from the Obsidian studio, which has been experimenting with formats in recent years. And now she has returned to the already familiar genre of large role-playing games. The previous such project was The Outer Worlds.
If Kingdom Come is too dark for you, especially in winter, then Avowed is just a good option for a change of scenery, but in a more magical format. The game will be more compact than many modern RPGs, but you are unlikely to feel cramped in it – Obsidian is famous for the attention to detail in their games.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- February 21
The Japanese madmen from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have created a spin-off that the fans could most likely come up with. However, this is an official game. Those who are already aware of the games in the series are unlikely to be surprised by what is happening, but for the uninitiated, the project may turn out to be a revelation.
The plot is structured in such a way that the former yakuza Goro Majima loses his memory and ends up in Hawaii. Within the setting, he will be able to explore Honolulu and the small islands of the archipelago. And most importantly, unlike battles with fists and edged weapons, now Majima becomes the captain of the ship, and fights also take place on the water. Japanese Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, to put it briefly. So it’s worth paying attention to those who have been waiting for games about pirates.
Atomfall
- PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC
- March 27
An interesting project, also because this is a completely new game from the Rebellion studio, known for the Sniper Elite series. A small open world of the British countryside of the 1950s is promised, and the events are connected with an accident at a nuclear power plant.
There is a search for resources, and battles with robots and mutants. Someone has already called the game “British Fallout”, and the inspiration is definitely noticeable. And, judging by the description, the project is going to focus not on the scale of locations, but on how the player’s actions will affect the plot and ending of the game. Potential “dark horse” of 2025.

Then we move into the territory where games do not have an exact release date, so postponements are possible, even until the release in 2025. However, most likely, the games listed below will still be released, although for some of them the official release date has not yet been determined. Thus, the games are played in a likely chronological order.
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era
Ubisoft unexpectedly announced a new strategy in the fall of 2024. This is the first part of the series since 2015. That is, there is at least one good reason to try a new product.
The action takes place on the planet Enroth – in the same place as the first three parts. At the same time, the development is being carried out by the Unfrozen studio, known for its Russian roots. The narrative director is Alexandra Golubeva, known as Alfina. In connection with these introductions, the new HoMM becomes at least interesting to compare it with previous games in the series.
Gears of War: E-Day
- Xbox X|S, PC
- Summer 2025
If you weren’t expecting a new full-fledged serialized part of the Gears of War series, then nothing surprising – the game has a rather modest army of fans in Russia. However, in the US the game is still one of the legends, and also remains the flagship of the “old” Xbox.
And unlike the previous numbered parts, the sixth, E-Day, is not trying to squeeze something out of itself after the main trilogy, but is finally going to become an exemplary prequel. The plot will develop 14 years before the events of the very first part. Theoretically, the game could be a great addition to the original trilogy and give new life to the series, becoming a kind of zero – a starting game in the chronology to get acquainted with the rest of the trilogy. That is, if you have not yet played any of the games in the series, it makes sense to start with this one.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Nintendo Switch
- Summer 2025
The long-awaited Switch exclusive will tentatively be released in the summer of 2025. The game was announced at E3 2017, but in January 2019 the development was rebooted, giving the project to Retro Studios. The producer is Kensuke Tanabe, who previously worked on previous games in the Metroid Prime subseries.
The reason for optimism is that gameplay was shown for the first time in June 2024. This is potentially the main Nintendo game in 2025, unless the company decides to save it for the announcement of Switch 2. Beginners should try it only if they wish; to fully get acquainted with the series, it is better to choose something from what has already been released. Ideally, Metroid Prime Remastered.
Ghost of Yōtei
The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima about the adventures of an assassin girl and the first Sucker Punch game to be created from scratch for PS5. In general, this is already enough to play a new game for those who are fans of the previous game and who by default purchase Sony exclusives, which are then released on PC.
The events of the new game will take place in 1603, more than 300 years after the ending of the first part. The setting will not be Tsushima, but the region around the Yotei volcano on the northern island of Hokkaido. More dangerous battles are expected, since, unlike the original, here we will fight not only with samurai clans, but also with local tribes.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Fall 2025
For the first time, Konami is releasing a remake of the first Metal Gear game in internal chronology. The game is as famous as it is incomprehensible to those who are not among its fans. One has only to remember those moments when fans explain to those ignorant of the versions of Snakes (code names of different characters) which of them should be played in which part.
However, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the perfect starting point for getting to know the series. The project has every chance to collect money from both fans and newcomers. The publisher decided to take the safe route, and there will be no radical changes in the remake, and the gameplay will only be improved based on the mechanics of MGS V that already worked well.
Grand Theft Auto VI
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S
- October 2025
Probably the most anticipated game of the decade. The previous part was released in 2013, the studio’s last game was released in 2018. That is, in all respects, the project has been in development for more than five, and probably in fact, at least 10 years.
At the same time, the game still has only one official trailer, zero gameplay videos and a couple of pieces of art. The second trailer was not released in 2024, but so far everything is heading towards the fact that the game will be released in 2025, according to Rockstar tradition, it releases such projects either in the spring or in the fall. Under current conditions, we should expect a spring trailer and a fall release. Waiting longer seems almost impossible, both for the company – out of a desire to please investors, and for the players who want to part with their money.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- PS5
- Late autumn 2025
The sequel to the most unusual adventure of a courier with the face of actor Norman Reedus in a post-apocalyptic world in the arthouse vision of game designer Hideo Kojima. The first game formally had a specific ending and generally answered the main questions, leaving, of course, a lot of room for thinking about what we were all playing.
In Death Stranding 1, Kojima to a certain extent predicted the Covid epidemic, but in the new part we are more likely to experience space rather than earthly travel. The main character Sam Bridges goes on a trip around the world to save humanity from extinction. Perhaps it is the theme of the birth of children and the gradual extinction of humanity, which is so actively mentioned in both Japan and Russia, that will become the main one in DS 2. The presence of a star cast in the new game, coupled with Kojima’s unusual style, speaks in favor of the fact that this It’s worth playing at least once, but not necessarily at release.
Doom: The Dark Ages
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Winter 2025
By all indications, this game should not be released in 2025, too little time has passed since the release of the last part. However, a gameplay trailer from June 2024 suggests that the project is close to the final stages of polishing. Doom: The Dark Ages is a prequel to 2016’s Doom and Doom Eternal.
The previous parts of the first-person shooter were so successful that even one video of the new product was enough to generate hype among fans. Now the action takes place in a world reminiscent of medieval Europe. New weapons are expected, including a machine gun that shoots the skulls of defeated enemies – the most doom solution possible.
