So many people slip and get a fracture
When the ground is slippery, it is very easy to slip and injure yourself. Slip accidents cost Sweden approximately eleven billion kroner each year.
According to Seniors women over 65 are responsible for every third slip-related fracture in Sweden. And every year, 3,000 women suffer a fracture after slipping.
Here the municipality distributes free needles
Now the municipality of Gothenburg has decided to hand out free needles.
In order to take part in the free stitches, you must be registered in Gothenburg and turn 65 in 2024.
The spikes will be available for free from October 14th through December 18th.
Everyone concerned will receive a letter either in the mail or via Kivra with a value code that can be used to order the spikes on a website or by phone, writes Vårt Göteborg on its website.

Want to prevent slipping accidents
The reason for handing out free spikes is to prevent slip accidents.
– Spikes reduce the risk of falling when it is slippery. Around half of everyone who receives the mailing usually uses the offer, says Annika Andersson, administrator in the department Health promotion and prevention in the elderly and the care and welfare administration to Our Gothenburg.

There are different types of needles
