Today, members of two committees of the Daugavpils City Council, as every year at the beginning of November, considered a draft decision regarding the presentation of the Year Award to outstanding Daugavpils residents.
This year, 34 candidates applied for the “Award of the Year” in various categories: in education – 9, in culture – 2, in sports – 3, in the national economy – 8, in health care and social protection – 4, in social activities – 3 , without specifying a nomination – 5.
Their candidacies were assessed by the Awards Council, which today submitted its decision to the deputies. As a result, it is planned to present awards in the following categories for contribution to the development of the city and achievements in 2024:
– “Education” – Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Daugavpils State Gymnasium Signit Gabran;
– “Culture” – to the choreographer of the Daugavpils Theater Irina Bogeruk and a troupe of dancers;
– “Sport” – to the speedway driver Andrzej Lebedev;
– “National Economy” – Pulsar Optics;
– “Health and social care” – laboratory specialist at Daugavpils Regional Hospital Leontine Milasevic;
– “Public activities” – to the society Latgales asie āķi and the head of the administrative records department of the Self-Government Police Jazep Ostrovsky.
The winners will receive an award and a cash prize of 500 euros.
In turn, the award “For the contribution of life” and a monetary reward in the amount of 1,500 euros are planned to be presented to the head of the STARS leisure club of the Jaunība Children and Youth Center Alvintina Mamaeva.
The award ceremony will take place at a gala event dedicated to the day of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, which will take place on November 18 at the Daugavpils Theater.
