Pirelli has completed the first tests of the narrower tires that the cars will wear from 2026 onwards. The new tires remain 18″, but the width of the front tires has been reduced by 25mm and the rear by 30mm, in the FIA’s attempt to reduce the weight of the cars. In addition, the diameter of the tires has been reduced from 72 cm to 70.5-71 cm.
The tires were tested on a 2023 Aston Martin car, and other teams have expressed interest in testing the new tires, so Pirelli will be conducting further tests. According to the head of Aston Martin, Mike Krack, his team “ran” first with the new tires after a relative draw was made.
Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich was the first driver to test the new tires at the Barcelona circuit, covering 1,392 kilometers over two days.
