World Green Building Week, which is celebrated this year from September 9 to 15has become one of the leading global campaigns in the promotion of sustainable construction. This event brings together a network of over 75 national green building councils, which with their 46,000 members call the construction sector to move towards a healthier planet and a better future for all.
On the occasion of marking the World Green Building Week, the Green Building Council of Serbia is organizing a National Conference called WGBW24, which will be held September 9 and 10 in the premises of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
The central theme of the conference is how local solutions can help solve global problems, with a special focus on the three key pillars of the green transition: reduction, decarbonization and adaptation.
Reduction means reducing everything – from the energy we consume, through the materials we install, to the waste we create. This principle is crucial not only for buildings, but also for our daily life.
Decarbonization refers to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, by switching to renewable energy sources, using recycled materials and improving existing buildings. In this way, we create a cleaner environment.
Adaptation allows our buildings and infrastructure to become more resilient to climate change, adapting to new challenges to keep us all safe.
The first day of the conference, organized with the help of projects such as Circ-Boost, Reconstruct and Woodcircles, will focus on the circular economy in construction. The positive effects that this approach can bring, but also the challenges along the way, will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about innovations from Europe that support and accelerate the green transition in the construction sector.
The second day will be dedicated to innovations in construction. From innovation of small businesses and clusters, to mechanisms that support innovation and new approaches to the development of system solutions – innovative activities permeate the entire sector.
As in previous years, the Green Building Council of Serbia is joining the global network with a series of events during this week. This year’s campaign is called #BuildingTheTransition, with the message that we can all contribute to a better future through three key steps: reduction, decarbonization and adaptation.
“These three key principles guide us in building the transition towards a sustainable built environment. We all know that changes are inevitable, and in order for them to be possible, it is necessary to build an adequate regulatory, financial and market environment, which will enable the creation of a better, healthier built environment for all people, everywhere”, according to the Green Building Council of Serbia.
