The announcement also states that whistleblower protection and lobbying are represented within these areas.

The implementation of the National Strategy will contribute to the fulfillment of 14 transitional criteria for “Chapter 23: Judiciary and fundamental rights” of the negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the EU, the Government added.

“When it comes to repressive measures, this strategy refers to the preparation of an analysis of the need for amendments to the Law on the Organization and Competence of State Bodies in the Suppression of Organized Crime, Terrorism and Corruption, as well as improving the results of investigations, prosecuting crimes of corruption, increasing the number of convictions and confiscated property resulting from the execution of corrupt criminal acts”, the announcement reads.

The first National Strategy for the fight against corruption was adopted in 2005, followed by a number of other documents and the Operational Plan for the prevention of corruption in areas of special risk.

That plan “represents an overview of all anti-corruption policies since 2005,” the announcement reads.
