The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, met on Friday, November 22, with the President-elect of the USA, Donald Trump, in Florida, said a spokeswoman of the Atlantic Alliance, quoted by Reuters.
“They discussed a number of global security issues that NATO needs to address,” said Farah Dakhlallah.
The meeting took place at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s official residence, which he used to call the “Winter White House” during his first term.
On Friday, NATO did not respond to requests for comment on Dutch media reports that Rutte – former prime minister of the Netherlands – flew to Florida on a Dutch government plane to meet with Trump.
Former Dutch Prime Minister Rutte is considered one of the EU leaders who had the most success in the relationship with Trump during his first term in the White House.
Rutte’s trip to Florida comes as NATO and Ukraine have scheduled emergency talks on Tuesday in Brussels, after Russia used a new type of ballistic missile in an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday.
