You have to go back to Junior Eurovision 2004 to remember a little María Isabel taking the victory with her Rather dead than simple. A moment that has gone down in the history of Spanish television and that many remember. However, due to organizational issues, RTVE was not in charge of hosting the children’s festival. Therefore, the fact that this year it is held at the Caja Mágica in Madrid has been a milestone for the public channel.
An event that is played at home and whose representative from Spain is Chloe DelaRosa from Extremadura with her theme Like Lolawhere he pays tribute to Lola Flores. And if there is something that is being talked about, and a lot, it is the technological innovations that have been decided to adopt in this edition, among them, the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Europe has its sights set on Madrid as it has also passed 55 years since Spain hosted the senior festival for the first and only time, after Massiel’s victory. For this reason, RTVE wanted to make a difference in the technical aspect.
This year’s stage features an 8K vertical format screen for the first time. A choice with which they intend to generate a differentiating technological environment and simulate a mobile phone.
Junior Eurovision 2024 uses Artificial Intelligence throughout the gala
And although this has attracted a lot of attention, in the same way as the garden of plants and flowers that surrounds the entire stage, there is something that has monopolized the center of the comments: the use of AI in each and every one of the performances.
Social networks have exploded with comments as soon as the first presentation video came out, the postal calls. Among other things, they have decided to intersperse the real images of the artists with others created with this tool in various situations that may or may not have a relationship with the performances.
“Completely unnecessary”, “I’m freaking out this year with AI”, “I still can’t believe that the Junior Eurovision 2024 postcards were made with AI”, or “Change the clips on the postcards for something different”, are some of the comments that have flooded the networks since the beginning of the gala.
Even so, there have also been many defenders of the use of this tool to be able to go further in the visual field. “It’s a children’s festival and they are postcards for children, that’s why the ‘story’ images (…) AI is here to stay,” said an X (Twitter) user.
