L’Area C of Milan continues to close access to more and more cars, preparing to no longer allow access to Euro 3 petrol cars starting from 1 October 2024, as foreseen by the ban calendar.
In less than a week then the euro 3 will join the Euro 0, 1 and 2, for which access to Area C has been prohibited for some time. There will be a deroga only for those who reside within the ZTL: for them, in fact, the ban on entering on board a Euro 3 petrol car will come into force on 1 October 2025.
Area C Milan, the calendar of bans
As said for the Euro 3 petrol car It is only the latest of the bans in chronological order regarding the access to Area C of Milan. The virtual gates are currently closed for:
- Euro 0, 1, 2 petrol
- Euro 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 diesel without FAP
- Euro 0, 1, 2, 3 diesel with after-market FAP with particulate mass class lower than Euro 4
- Euro 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 diesel with after-market FAP installed after 12/31/2018 and with particulate mass class equal to at least Euro 4
- Euro 3, 4 diesel with FAP as standard and with field V.5 of the vehicle registration document > 0.0045 g/km or without value in the field V.5 of the vehicle registration document
- Euro 3, 4 diesel with FAP as standard and with V.5 field on vehicle registration document <= 0.0045 g/km
- Euro 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 diesel with after-market FAP installed by 31.12.2018 and with an adaptation class (reported on the registration document) for the mass of particulate matter equal to at least Euro 4
- Euro 5 diesel
- Dual fuel diesel-LPG and diesel-methane Euro 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
Over the next few years they will not be able to access:
- From 1st October 2027
- From 1st October 2028
- From 1st October 2029
- Euro 6 diesel D_TEMP
- Euro 6 diesel D
- From 1st October 2030
Area C, payments
Access to Area C is free for some types of vehicles: electric cars, hybrid cars (with emissions less than 100 g/km), scooters, motorcycles, electric tricycles and quadricycles, along with vehicles transporting disabled people (minutes of permit) or people heading to the emergency room.
For all other cars it is mandatory pay the daily ticket of 7.5 euros, 3 euros for residents after the 51st entry.
Currently the Area C cameras are on from 7:30 to 19:30, from Monday to Friday. On weekends, therefore, you can freely enter Area C, a rule that may no longer apply in 2025. The mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has in fact anticipated that next year, entry to Area C will also be subject to payment on Saturdays and Sundays.
