The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

After the presentation of the new Series 1, BMW is preparing to promote the new generation of the Series 2 Gran Coupe. However, we can see this innovation now thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

More precisely, these first pictures show the new “double” Gran Coupe in the variant with a long wheelbase, which is intended only for the Chinese market.

It is the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe L, where the suffix L stands for extended wheelbase, for more space for rear passengers.

Gran Coupe L has a wheelbase of 2780 mm, while the length of the vehicle is 4663 mm.

The longer version also stands out with subtly redesigned rear doors, while the new front design is borrowed from the mechanically connected BMW 1 Series. The rear comes with more aggressive LED lights inspired by the X2 model.

The new Gran Coupe is based on an improved version of the BMW Group’s UKL platform, which is also used for the 1 Series, X1 and X2.

In China, this compact model will be available with three gasoline engines. These are 1.5 liter with 128 kW/174 hp in the 220L version, then 2.0 liter with 167 kW/227 hp in the 225L version and 2.0 liter with 246 kW/335 hp in the M235L variant.

The European offering is likely to offer different powertrains with a stronger emphasis on electrification. The M235 xDrive is expected to get a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 233 kW/317 hp.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe L will be produced in China through the BMW Brilliance joint venture. It is expected to premiere later this year, alongside the standard 2 Series Gran Coupe, which will be built in Leipzig, Germany.
