Now, four months after the start of production for the BMW M5 Sedan, series production of the new BMW M5 Touring has started at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing. The new model combines exceptional dynamics with versatile space for everyday use.
It is the third BMW M car today to feature an M HYBRID drive system, in which a high-revving V8 engine is complemented by an e-drive system with highly responsive power development. Together, the two engines deliver a peak performance of 535 kW/727 hp and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm.
“With the BMW M5 Touring, the new BMW 5 Series family ‘made in Dingolfing’ is complete,” says plant director Christoph Schröder. “We can now offer customers around the world a unique variety of powertrain technologies and body styles, all from our core model range.”
With the addition of the new model, the location continues to expand its production of high-performance BMW M cars. Alongside the BMW M4 Coupé and Cabrio, the BMW M8 Coupé, Cabrio and Gran Coupé and the BMW M5 Sedan, the new BMW M5 Touring is the seventh model M coming off the Dingolfing production line. BMW M models represent approximately 6% of the total production of the plant in Dingolfing.
Uzina BMW Group din Dingolfing
The plant in Dingolfing is the largest European production location of the BMW Group. Every day, more than 1,500 Series 4, Series 5, Series 6, Series 7 and Series 8 cars, as well as the BMW iX electric model, leave the assembly line. In 2023, the plant produced approximately 292,000 automobiles.
Currently, the plant has a workforce of approximately 18,500 employees, as well as 900 trainees in 15 fields. With this, the location is not only the largest employer in the region, but also one of the largest industrial production and vocational training bases in Germany.
In addition to automobiles, automobile components such as pressed parts or those for chassis and undercarriage are also produced at Dingolfing. In component plant 2.2 is the BMW Group Competence Center for Electric Motor Production, which supplies BMW Group plants worldwide with electric motors and high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrid or electric cars.
The location also makes rough bodies for all Rolls-Royce models. The so-called Dynamic Centre, a large transit point and storage space, is the centerpiece of the BMW Group’s aftersales logistics and supplies the BMW and MINI retail organization worldwide with original parts and accessories.
