General Motors confirmed earlier that it will present the most extreme Chevrolet Corvette with a centrally located engine so far this summer, which has now happened.
So this is the Corvette ZR1 powered by a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 LT7 engine, which comes mated to a significantly revised 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The engine has as much as 793 kW/1079 hp and 1121 Nm of torque, so it’s no surprise that this car will reach speeds in excess of 215 mph (346 km/h).
The offer will include the Coupe version (its weight is 1665 kg) and the Cabrio edition (it weighs 1705 kg).
In terms of dimensions, the new ZR1 is 4722mm long, 2025mm wide, 1234mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2723mm.
A new carbon fiber aerodynamic package (with larger rear wing, front spoiler, sills and air vents), carbon fiber roof, new 20 and 21 inch wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, modified Magnetic Ride suspension, 12-inch digital instrument panel, 8-inch infotainment system and ZR1 badges on the steering wheel and door sills.
The ZR1 will go into production next year, but for now the price at which it will be sold is not known. Either way, the ZR1 will be more expensive than the Z06 version, which costs $110,100 in the US.
