The new Dodge Charger Daytona has an amplification system that reproduces the sound of an American V8 while it is powered by an electric motor.
The first electric muscle car in history is making its mark. Arriving at American dealerships at the end of last year, the Dodge Charger Daytona marks a profound revolution in a segment that has always been reserved for large and powerful American thermal engines.
But even if the V8 is no longer part of the game, its “soul” is still there. At least that’s what the manufacturer claimed during the presentation of its model. Not sure that potential customers will agree. The new Dodge Charger and Challenger are equipped with a Fraztonic “exhaust system”, which was created with the aim to imitate the sound of an American V8.
It’s hard to tell
The American company lets you hear the sound of its new muscle car via a video posted on social networks. Amplified by the passage inside a tunnel, the sound seems a little less “raw” than a real V8 engine, even if, let’s admit it, the resemblance is sometimes disturbing, especially with the presence of the whistle combined with the volumetric compressor.
The Dodge Charger Daytona will be the first model to use Stellantis’ new STLA Large platform, which will also be adopted in the future for the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the future Maserati Quattroporte. Initially, it will be launched exclusively as an electric version, with the R/T and ScatPack variants, both featuring all-wheel drive.
Thermal is coming back soon on the Charger
In the R/T version, the two electric motors generate a total power of 503 hp and 548 Nm of torquefor acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. The ScatPack variant develops 680 hp and 850 Nm of torqueenough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 216 km/h. Both models are equipped with a 94 kWh battery, for a maximum range of 510 km on the R/T version.
In 2025, two versions with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine will also be available, with respective powers of 420 or 550 hp.
