The new Ferrari F80 officially debuts. The Italian hypercar uses a hybrid V6 with 1,200 hp

The Italian manufacturer has officially unveiled its new hypercar, the successor to the LaFerrari. The car uses a hybrid V6 engine that develops 1,200 HP.

The time has come to meet the new halo car of the Italian manufacturer, a car that is part of a family of legendary models, such as the F40, Enzo and LaFerrari.

The new F80 returns to the nomenclature that started this series, but has a new approach under the body sculpted in the wind tunnel. The McLaren W1 competitor uses a 3.0-liter hybrid V6 engine, a first for the series. The LaFerrari also used a hybrid engine, but that was a V8.

The most powerful Ferrari in history

For the F80, Ferrari chose to combine a supercharged V6 engine with three electric motors. The result reaches a maximum power of 1,200 hp, making it the most powerful car Ferrari has ever built. On its own, the combustion engine produces 900 hp, assisted by three electric motors: one on the rear axle, two on the front axle. So the car also benefits from all-wheel drive.

With the help of this engine, which produces more power even than the one found in F1, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.15 seconds. The maximum speed it can reach is 350 km/h, values even better than those communicated by McLaren for its new hypercar.

Aerodynamics play an important role

The aggressive carbon fiber body shapes are there to generate maximum downforce. The F80 incorporates design traits we know from the company’s famous models. For example, in the front there is a black panel inspired by the Ferrari Daytona, as we also saw on the new 12Cilindri. The fenders are sculpted to recall those of the F40, and the rear spoiler is active, adjusting to the car’s aerodynamic needs.

At 250 km/h, the car produces over 1,000 kg of downforce. Half of this downforce is produced by the car’s floor, so the F80 “sticks” to the asphalt in a similar way to Formula 1 cars.

The aerodynamics work in tandem with an active suspension, which has an electric motor on each corner of the car. Thus, the F80 no longer needs anti-roll bars to control roll and pitch. But more importantly, the suspension can maintain a constant ground clearance so that the aerodynamic package can work as it should at any speed.

The Ferrari F80 will cost over 3 million euros

The new Ferrari F80 will have a price of 3.6 million euros per copy. This makes it the most expensive car Ferrari has ever launched and €1.2 million more expensive than a McLaren W1. Ferrari will build just 799 examples, with production planned to begin in 2025 and run through 2027.
