The new Forest in Town complex reinterprets the tenement house

The former Galbani farmhouse in Barona district of Milan transformed into a green residential villagean example of a horizontal condominium that goes against the contemporary urban verticality. This is a sustainable redevelopment project Forrest in Town signed by DFA Partnersin collaboration with Boffa Petrone & Partners and created by the Building Group.

The

The complex, of trapezoidal shape, is made up of 89 ground-to-ground housing units for a total of 10,000 m2 in totalwith private gardens and patios, 5 commercial spaces, fitness and recreational areas, a park of 4,500 m2 and an aeroponic garden. Halfway between the architectural tradition of the tenement house and the urban village, the complex is built according to theancient Milanese court typology overlooking a condominium park.

The buildings of Forrest in Town that frame the courtyard – with a maximum of 3/4 floors above ground – were designed starting from the existing planimetric and volumetric layout and shapes, from the rural Lombard fabric of the original building: the large door and window openings with silhouettes and contours in relief, the iron profiled window frames, the wooden floors and roofing structure. And again the colours of Milanese architecture, which plays with Milanese yellow and shades of red, the balconies and the beole.

The pre-existing elements have been maintained and enhanced in a harmonious mix of historical, innovative and ecological materials; an example of this are the structures in wood visible in the apartments. An environmentally friendly architecture that allows residents a real connection with nature while living in the city center, surrounded by plants and fruit trees. The interiors are in fact designed to create a continuous dialogue with the outdoor spaces.

In the basement under the large courtyard, an area of 70 m2 is dedicated to soil-free cultivation with aeroponic systemthat is, without soil and thanks to water, in which nutrients are dissolved that are suitable for making the plants grow quickly and healthily.vegetable garden It offers residents seasonal products with a reduced environmental impact and zero km, managing to produce up to 90 different types of vegetables, herbs and spices.
