The new French government was formed

The new French government was formed on Saturday evening with the participation of centrist and right-wing forces, two weeks after President Emmanuel Macron appointed former EU Commissioner Michel Barnier from the center-right Republicans (LR) as prime minister.

Alexis Kohler, the secretary general of the French presidential office, announced the composition of the new executive body on the steps of the Elysée Palace. The 39-member government will hold its first meeting on Monday. 19 ministers were replaced in the board, most of them from the traditional right and centrist parties, as well as Emmanuel Macron’s party. There is only one left-wing politician in the new government: Didier Migaud, unknown to the public, former president of the Audit Office, heads the justice department.

As a result of the parliamentary elections on July 7, the National Assembly with 11 factions became three-part, in which Barnier’s government will only have a relative majority with the support of the presidential camp, the centrists and the LR representatives.
