Apple is making significant progress with the next generation of CarPlayas demonstrated by the new assets discovered in a public database. After introducing updated icons in the beta of iOS 18.2further details have emerged that bolster hopes of an imminent launch.
A recent filing with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) revealed new assets linked to CarPlayapparently designed for vehicles Audi. The request, submitted on November 8, 2024 and published on November 15, confirms that Audi will be among the first brands to adopt Next generation CarPlay.
The assets do not show radically new elements compared to the concepts already presented by Apple, but consolidate the idea of a more advanced user interface, fully integrated with the car’s systems, such as digital instruments and climate controls.
Audi had already been announced as one of the first partners for the new CarPlay. This filing strengthens the collaboration and suggests that compatible vehicles may be imminent.
Apple had previously indicated that the first vehicles with next-generation CarPlay would arrive by the end of 2024. However, it is not yet clear which specific models will integrate it nor whether there will be other brands involved in the initial launch.
The new CarPlay promises complete control of the vehicle experience, including digital instruments, advanced navigation, climate control and much more.
With the discovery of these new assets and the confirmations of partners like Audi, the next generation of CarPlay seems to be one step away from becoming reality. It remains to be seen which models will offer this technology and how it will be received by users.
