The new generation of GPUs from Nvidia will not be released this year, the GeForce RTX 5000 is being postponed

Not long ago, we had some unpleasant news for AMD graphics fans, namely that the next-generation Radeon RX 8000 graphics will not be released until after the new year, probably in January around CES 2025. At that time, we pointed out that they would therefore only come to the market after Nvidia’s new high-end GPU (while covering the mainstream themselves). However, it seems that the release of the next generation of graphics is also being postponed for Nvidia. In the end, maybe only Intel will release news this year.

Previous information about plans for the release of Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 graphics, which have the new Blackwell architecture, was that at least one card would still hit stores in 2024. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the top model GeForce RTX 5090, but “just” the GeForce RTX 5080.

However, leaker Kopite7kimi has now written on Twitter that the situation has changed and we won’t see the RTX 50 generation graphics until CES. It is therefore likely that Nvidia will reveal the Blackwell gaming graphics in January at the CES 2025 fair, or at the same time at some event of its own.

Kopite7kimi is the best source of information about Nvidia’s plans, which has been confirmed multiple times. So it’s likely that this news is based on a real change (or gradual shift) of plans on Nvidia’s part. The reasons are not disclosed. Youtuber RedGamingTech is said to have heard that the delay could be more or less due to the fact that the GDDR7 memories used by these graphics won’t be ready in time. But it may just be a speculative reasoning.

Nvidia B200 Blackwell, compute version of the architecture

At CES 2025, which will be held between January 7 and 10, however, there may only be a formal unveiling, after which the real start of availability in stores would follow only with a delay. With the completely new generation, it is sometimes longer than the usual 7-14 days. So the cards may be available for purchase later than in the first days of the year, but this is still relatively far away and there is probably no point in trying to guess the approximate dates now. The release dates may be further changed until then.

A chance for a Battlemage?

Also at Intel, there were doubts about whether the company will be able to release a new generation of Arc graphics (labeled Battlemage). According to earlier leaks, however, Intel wanted to do everything in order to be able to launch in 2024, because any postponement of the dates affects its reputation. So it is not clear whether it will work out, but it is probably not entirely without a chance that the Arc Battlemage cards will still be able to reach the market at least symbolically in 2024. However, the latest information is increasingly talking about a shift to 2025 for Battlemage as well.

It must be said that the Battlemage generation was originally supposed to compete mainly with the Radeon RX 7000 and GeForce 4000, and only the delay of the entire roadmap of separate Intel graphics moved it to the position where it is released practically at the time of the Radeon RX 8000 and GeForce RTX 5000. Intel was happy for its cards to come out at a time when competitors did not yet have a new generation on the market. However, it may not succeed despite the delay of the competition.
