The new Google Maps interface is headed to Android. What’s new?

  • Google Maps update is rolling out to Android devices
  • The user interface is changing
  • iOS devices will not be affected by the change yet

A new user interface is gradually starting to appear in Google Maps. A lot of things will transform, move or disappear completely. Users will have to get used to the “new” Google Maps for a while. And at the same time, we will most likely soon be waiting for other hot news that Google has been promoting for some time – in particular, it concerns the connection of artificial intelligence with maps and other functions.

In coming update 11.136.x many parts of the current Google Maps user interface are changing. At first glance, these are just details, but they can make working with maps a lot easier – or even more complicated for someone. The first change concerns automatic distance determination when searching for a location. Unlike in the past, after entering any address or locality, in addition to its location on the map, information on how long it will take to reach the destination appears.

A much bigger change is the display of the destination on the sheet at the bottom of the screen. As soon as you enter a destination in Google Maps, a block with additional information about the place will appear at the bottom of the display. By simply moving your finger over the sheet upwards, you can enlarge it to the full screen and all of a sudden you have detailed information in front of you, including the title, ratings, reviews and photos. If you are not interested in these details, simply close the sheet with a cross and continue to focus only on the map.

Another novelty in the new interface is the move mode switch to the bottom of the screen.

Google Maps update it’s already rolling out to Android devices and should arrive sometime this week. If you have an Apple device, you’re out of luck for now – you won’t see the change.

What feature do you use most often in Google Maps?
