The German sports car recently underwent a facelift both technologically and aesthetically, and we took the new one to the test to see exactly how the Porsche 911 has evolved in 2024.
With a history spanning more than 60 years, the Porsche 911 has become one of those cult cars for enthusiasts. The newest generation (992) was introduced in 2018, and this year’s update brings a number of aesthetic but mostly technical changes.
For the first time in history, the German model received a hybrid engine, which debuted for the 911 GTS version. The new 911 Carrera GTS uses a six-cylinder, 3.6-liter boxer engine coupled with two electric motors. One of the engines is integrated into the turbocharger and produces 15 hp. The second electric motor is mounted in the PDK automatic gearbox and gives a boost of 54 hp and 150 Nm.
We tested the updated model in its base version, the Carrera, which retains the 3.0-liter boxer engine that now develops 394 hp and 450 Nm of maximum torque. Even this version can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 294 km/h.
The design of the Porsche 911 evolves subtly
On the outside, the car might look identical to the pre-facelift version, but there are a few differences that tell a 992.1 from a 992.2. With the facelift, Matrix LED headlights become standard equipment for the Porsche 911. At the front we can also see the new redesigned bumper, while at the back the 911 benefits from a new LED strip, under which we find the illuminated Porsche logo .
As standard, the Porsche 911 is equipped with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. As an option, customers can choose 20-inch wheels for the front axle and 21-inch wheels for the rear axle, as the car we tested also had.
Also, the copy I had was equipped with the Sport Design aesthetic package, which gives the car a more aggressive look. And to complete the more dynamic exterior, the car was also equipped with the sports exhaust system, with valves that vary the sound intensity depending on the selected mode.
The classic tachometer disappears from the interior of the new 911
The biggest change undergone by the 911 facelift on the inside is represented by the disappearance of the classic tachometer. Now, all versions will be equipped with a fully digital dashboard. It measures 12.6 inches diagonally and features seven different displays for the driver to choose from. Also, the cars will no longer be started with the key, on the left side of the steering wheel, but with a button mounted where the ignition would have been.
To begin with, the new Porsche 911 can be ordered in Coupe, Cabrio or Targa format. For now, all versions will be equipped with the PDK automatic transmission, but from 2025, the manual transmission will also be available for those who want it. The example we tested had a list price of 183,000 euros including VAT.
