The new era of BMW begins in 2025. A new chapter is ready to open for the German company, which will soon begin production of the first models inspired by the design of the Neue Klasse concept. Among these, there will be the new Series 3which will be available in both battery-only and electrified versions.
We will have to wait a little longer for the new BMW M3, while the first sports model at launch could be there M340i.
Unique shapes
Taking inspiration from the spy photos of the first prototypes, we gave shape to the future M340i in our rendering. As can be seen, the look of the 3 Series will be profoundly different from all the BMWs currently in the range, with a full-width double kidney grille that integrates the thin LED headlights.

Since this is a sports version, we expect specific bumpers, with some additional air intakes and a lowered trim of 10-20 mm, to give an even more menacing appearance. There should also be specific choices for alloy wheels, door handles flush with the bodywork and exclusive glossy black details.
Electric or thermal?
However, we arrive at the most important point: will the M340i be electric or thermal? There are no certainties, but it is certain that the new 3 Series will be offered with both types of engines, with different platforms. The draft version will in fact use the new Neue Klasse platform, the one with electrified engines will in fact be based on the CLAR 2.
In particular, the electric BMW 3 Series will have an 800 Volt architecture for charging up to 270 kW, while the batteries could have a capacity of at least 75 kWh. According to BMW, the new platform also allows for higher energy density and lower production costs.
As for the heat enginesit is reasonable to expect widespread use of 48V mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, but it remains to be seen whether under the bonnet we will still find six or eight-cylinder engines or whether the company will prefer to focus on the four-cylinder – heavily electrified – for contain emissions.

Ultimately, the new M340i will certainly have more than the 374 HP currently delivered by the 3.0 six-cylinder mild hybrid, but it remains to be seen whether this power will be only electric or supported by a combustion engine.
But when will the new 3 Series be revealed? BMW hasn’t officially announced it yet, but we think the Monaco Motor Show 2025 it could be the right stage to present even just the pre-production version, with the road debut scheduled for 2026.
