The Financial Supervision Authority (ASF) has announced the new rates for compulsory car insurance. Based on these reference prices, insurance companies will determine how much RCA insurance costs in 2025, in the first half of the year.
Compulsory car insurance prices have been constantly increasing in recent years, even though the Government has imposed a series of caps.
ASF imposes the reference rates based on which insurance companies set the RCA price.
How much does RCA insurance cost in 2025?
According to the reference rates published by the Financial Supervisory Authority, RCA insurance will be more expensive. Some drivers will pay over 5,000 lei per year for compulsory car insurance.
Rates vary depending on the area where the car is registered and are related to engine power.
Thus, for the Bucharest-Ilfov area, the reference rate for the cheapest car insurance will be 1,844 lei per year. This amount must be paid by those between the ages of 51 and 60 who own a car with a power of no more than 50 kilowatts.
Basically, the minimum tariff increases by more than 8% compared to the current prices. In the case of high-powered cars, the reference tariff increases by more than 30%.
For the rest of the country, the lowest reference rate is 1,064 lei. It applies to a car with a power of 50 KW, owned by a person between the ages of 51 and 60.
The highest reference rate reaches 3,964 lei for a person under 30 who owns a vehicle over 300 KW.
Mandatory car insurance can exceed 5,000 lei
The biggest increases will be for young drivers who have powerful cars. Conversely, those over 50 will benefit from the most affordable rates, if they have vehicles with engines below 50 KW.
For a vehicle over 300 KW, a person who is under 30 years old will pay an insurance of 5,240 lei per year. This is the highest reference rate established by ASF.
Drivers from Bucharest and Ilfov will pay approximately 1,500 lei more for RCA insurance than those residing in other counties.
And people under 30 will pay almost twice as much for compulsory car insurance as compared to the rest of the age groups. This is because the risk of causing a road accident is higher in the case of young people.
