The new Volvo ES90 will be launched next spring. The Swedes want to compete with the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE

Volvo is set to bring a new all-electric model to the market to compete with the BMW i5 or Mercedes-Benz EQE.

The Swedish manufacturer’s first electric sedan will be presented early next year. right Autocarthis will be the top model in a series of five new all-electric vehicles to be launched in the coming years.

The new rival to the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE is the S90’s electric counterpart, which uses combustion engines. The new ES90 will be revealed in March next year at an event in Stockholm, Sweden. The sedan has reportedly been developed with a focus on the Chinese market, although it will be sold worldwide.

The electric sedan will be closely related to the EX90 SUV, the top of the range of the Swedes. Like that model, the ES90 will be a flagship, not a car built to sell in high volumes.

The Volvo ES90 debuts in March 2025

Following the launch of the ES90, Volvo will bring an electric counterpart to the XC60, to be called the EX60, following the new car naming system the Swedes adopted with the EX90.

Volvo currently has three more electric vehicles in development. The new platform that will underpin the EX60 will accommodate a wider range of body styles, including an electric station wagon.

And although Volvo is still committed to the idea of becoming a fully electric brand, the Swedes realized the current situation of the car market and decided to postpone this moment, continuing to offer customers a range of hybrid models.

The leaked information says that the car has been developed under the code V551 and will be produced at one of the factories owned by Geely in China. The car would measure 4.99 meters, which will make it an idea longer than the current generation S90. It will also have a generous wheelbase thanks to the electric platform. The distance between the decks will be 3.1 meters.
