The New Year that was not (dir. Bogdan Mureșanu), the multi-prized Romanian film at the Venice Film Festival, will have a special preview in Bucharest on Friday, September 13within The White Nights of Romanian Film. Now in its 15th edition, White Night every year brings to the public a marathon of domestic premiere films, as well as meetings with actors, directors and production teams. The event will take place at the same time at Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara.
The program also includes the previews of some productions such as Holy WeekAndrei Cohn’s film based on a short story by IL Caragiale, awarded in Sarajevo, or Ext. Car Night (dir. Andrei Crețulescu), the latest film with Sherban Pavlu and Andi Vasluianu.

In Bucharest, the screenings will take place at Elvire Popesco Cinema, Muzeul Șăranului Cinema, Union Cinema, Eforie Cinematheque, CREART Film Garden, Hollywood Multiplex from Bucharest Mall and Cinema Hall of the UNATC. Screenings at the Film Garden and UNATC are free entry.

Cucuta Hourone of the film’s directors Rankingmeets the audience at Cinema Union, from 18:00. Constructed as an intense journalistic investigation, Ranking was awarded at TIFF 2024 with the Romanian Film Days Award. Director Andrei Răuțu comes to the preview of the documentary about the singer Marina Voica, Night butterflies (Cinematheca Eforie, 18:00).
The program in Bucharest also includes the preview of the documentary How can I be dead if I’m alive? (r. Ilinca Călugăreanu), about the absurd case of a man who tries to prove to the authorities that he is alive. Spectators will also be able to watch the latest film by director Cristi Puiu – MMXXthe multi-award-winning Don’t wait too long since the end of the world (b. Radu Jude), Nasty (dir. Tudor Giurgiu, Cristian Pascariu, Tudor D. Popescu), about the tennis player Ilie Năstase, or Horie (r. Ana-Maria Comănescu). The program also includes a surprise movie – perhaps the most anticipated production of the year – which will be revealed only in the cinema hall (at 18:00, at Cinema Elvire Popesco).
The UNATC Hall will be designed a selection of short films with free entry!
Cluj-Napoca & Timișoara program
In Cluj-Napoca, the films will be screened at Cinema Victoria starting at 17:30: How to be dead, if alive (r. Ilinca Călugăreanu), Holy Week (dir. Andrei Cohn) and Ranking (r. Horia Cucuta Horia, George and Gänæaard).
In Timișoara, the screenings will also take place at Cinema Victoria starting at 17:00: Where the elephants go (dir. Gabi Şarga, Cătălin Rotaru), Ext. Car. Night (r. Andrei Crețulescu) and How can I be dead if I’m alive? (r. Ilinca Călugăreanu).
