In the next two weeks, a significant change in weather awaits Europe, which will bring severe frosts and snow. The main reason will be the influence of an anticyclone, i.e. a pressure high, which will affect the weather on a large part of the continent. According to the Italian meteorological portal Meteo Giornale, the cold front associated with this pressure height is expected to bring significant cooling, which means that the end of the year and the beginning of the new year will be marked by winter weather. such as the Mediterranean. Freezing temperatures may also affect areas around the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is quite unusual for these regions.
The coming cooling is expected to be more intense than that brought by the pressure high last week.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) issued a similar forecast. According to their analyses, the weather in the Czech Republic will begin to be affected by a large pressure trough over northern Europe, which will bring a cold front. It should move across our territory to the east from Thursday, while cold air will begin to flow behind it from the northwest to the north. This influx of cold air will cause a sharp drop in temperatures and bring snowfall.
The most significant change in weather should occur Thursday evening and Friday night. Meteorologists predict that overnight temperatures will drop to values between +1 and -4°C, and could reach -6°C by the end of the week.
Daily temperatures will range between -2 and +3 °C. At the same time, cloudy to overcast weather is expected with frequent snowfall or snow showers. Mixed precipitation may also occur at lower elevations.
The first weekend of the new year will be marked by winter weather, which will bring not only freezing temperatures, but also snow cover. Europe is thus awaiting a period when the winter weather will fully manifest itself, not only in the mountainous regions, but also in the lowlands.
