Having passed 17 years since the launch of the R35, Nissan is readying the next generation of GT-R and according to the head of design of Nissan in Europe, Matthew Weaver, the new GT-R will have more Godzilla than ever before.
The thing about the GT-R is that it has to deliver in every area: aerodynamics, speed and performance. That will dictate it. The GT-R was never meant to win beauty contests, it’s very much a functional machine.
I remember when I was working on the last GT-R, where we spent days and nights in wind tunnels. I have never done this since with any other product. So, without a doubt, these things will dictate the shape of the next car. Additionally, we will add some “Godzilla” elements where we can.
What I love about the Silvia, and specifically these 90s cars, is how clean they look. Super minimal in a way. It’s a very noisy world now – it’s become stranger than fiction – so it takes a lot of confidence to have something pure and clean.
I wonder if the new noise in the future is actually silence. Because in a loud room, silence can be what makes the most noise,
Weaver said, leaving open the possibility that the next GT-R could be a hybrid.
