New York – The new NHL season will start on Friday, October 4 in Prague with a duel between Buffalo and New Jersey. The rematch is on the agenda at the O2 arena a day later and the Devils will be the home team. In North America, the competition is scheduled to start four days later than the opening duel of the 2024 NHL Global Series. Seattle welcomes St. Louis, Florida will hang a plaque on the ceiling commemorating the first triumph in the Stanley Cup before the battle with Boston, and Utah will be home for the first time. In Salt Lake City, where the Arizona team moved, Chicago will be the first to be introduced. The competition program was published today by the competition management on its website.
The return of the NHL to Prague after two years was announced by representatives of the overseas competition already on March 12. The last time San Jose played two duels with Nashville in the O2 arena was in 2022. The premiere in Prague was provided by two fights between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay in 2008, two years later they met twice in the O2 arena in Boston with Phoenix, and in 2019 the match between Philadelphia and Chicago took place there. Hockey players from Dallas and Florida will also be present in Europe this year, who will compete in Tampere on November 1 and 2.
The schedule of 1,312 games of the regular season will conclude on Thursday, April 17, when the 16 participants in the playoffs will be definitively decided. All 32 clubs will be in action on Tuesday, October 22. The rematch of the Stanley Cup Final between Florida and Edmonton will take place on Monday, December 16, on the ice of the Canadian club at Rogers Place. The rematch is scheduled for Thursday, February 27 at the Amerant Bank Arena.
In the upcoming season, two matches will be played outdoors. On Tuesday, December 31, Chicago will welcome St. Louis at Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs. On Saturday, March 1, Columbus will host Detroit in the Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State University football team.
From February 10 to 21, the NHL will be suspended for the Four Nations Tournament. Teams from Canada, Finland, Sweden and the USA, composed entirely of NHL players, will be presented in Montreal and Boston from February 12 to 20. The new tournament, which will offer a total of seven games, will replace the NHL All-Star Game.
