the nightmare of living in a house where 30 cars have crashed in 30 years

Imagine that you hear a huge roar when you are at home: a car has crashed against the porch. Unfortunately, it is not a nightmare, but something recurring that happens once a year.

It is not the only case of this type, but it is one of the worst. What is wrong is the street design Where is this house located?

Much worse than having annoying neighbors

It is likely that your house is not perfect and you have many reasons to complain, whether because the neighbors are too noisy, because you do not have an elevator, because there is not much sun or for a long etcetera. Well, think that there are people who are worse off, like the owners of a house in Portland, Oregon (United States), which looks more like a black spot on a road than a home.

And the thing is that at the intersection between NE Weidler Street and NE 24th Avenue too many accidents take place and the worst part goes to a Mike Powers house: Over the last 30 years, 30 cars have been stamped against his home, as indicated The Drive. The last accident took place a few days ago, on Christmas Eve.

Portland Fire Department account who received the notice of a car that had crashed into this house in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood. In the accident there was a fire and a natural gas meter was damaged, so there was a possibility that the fire could spread and there was even a risk of explosion.

Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and focused on preventing the fire from reaching the house. The problem is that there was no valve that would allow the gas flow to be cut off, so they created a water curtain to prevent further damage while a firefighter managed to directly cut the gas line a few meters from the house.

Luckily, there was only material damage to report, basically the car that crashed into the house, a Lincoln Navigatorand the porch of the home. Firefighters clarify that “most of the 110-year-old house in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood was not affected, so the accident could have had a significantly different outcome.”

As far as possible, it seems like a stroke of luck for the owners of this house, but it is not an isolated event, but rather the 30th accident that has taken place at this address over the last 30 years.

The truth is that the design of the road leaves a lot to be desired; After a very long straight line without any obstacles, there is a curve right at the height of the house and, if that were not enough, in that same curve there is an intersection where cars coming from another perpendicular street merge. If a car comes too fast, the possibility of it eating the house is very high, as happened with the Lincoln Navigator on Christmas Eve.

You just have to take a look at Google Maps to realize the danger of the road design. It is true that the speed limit is low (20 mph, that is, 32 km/h), but it is clear that it is not enough to prevent cars from continuing to crash into this house. In addition, there are no bumps or any type of speed reducer.

Logically, the owners of the house are fed up and so are their neighbors. They have tried for a long time to change the design of the street, but they have not succeeded. Some hope that this accident is the straw that breaks the camel’s back and that something should finally be done to prevent cars from crashing into this address.

India, where you shouldn't expect help from anyone if you get into a traffic accident (and this is why)

The strange thing is that, given what we have seen, no one has thought of putting some ballards on the sidewalk, right in front of the house, another tree or directly a wall. It would not be the solution either, but it would serve to guarantee the integrity of the house. Be that as it may, some highlights, like the millions we have in Spain, would also help.
