Based on the leaked images, the new GPU promises serious power.
In a now-deleted ChipHell forum post, images of the alleged packaging of the OC version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, which can be linked to the MSI Gaming Trio series, surfaced. While such leaks should always be treated with a grain of salt, the photos look pretty authentic and may confirm some of the rumored specs.
Based on the box, the RTX 5080 can come with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, which makes excellent 4K performance possible with a 256-bit memory interface. The card could be the first consumer GPU to support PCIe 5.0 and uses Nvidia’s GB203-400 Blackwell architecture, which can include 10,752 CUDA cores.
If the new architecture retains Lovelace’s structure, the RTX 5080 could have a total of 84 raytracing and tensor cores, which could be about a 5% increase over the RTX 4080 Super.
With CES 2025 just around the corner, an official confirmation of the specs and release date could be coming soon, which some rumors suggest could be as early as January 21st. Based on what we have seen so far, the RTX 5080 can be a serious contender in the high-end GPU market.
