The origin of the El Saler spill points to a ship as it contained fuel and oils, according to a preliminary report

The preliminary report on the components of the El Saler spill, based on samples taken by the Civil Guard, reveals that it contains a portion of fuel mixed with some oils, which points to a ship as the source of the spill.

This was stated this afternoon by the Government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, who has nevertheless clarified that this is a preliminary report and that we must wait for it to be conclusive. However, she has indicated that since the spill contains a mixture of hydrocarbons and some oils, it is “increasingly more likely” that the stain that has affected the beaches of El Saler comes from a ship.

Bernabé stressed that the Captaincy and Maritime Rescue are continuing to investigate and track all ships and vessels that passed through the area.

The Environmental Unit of the Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the oil spill that has affected several beaches in El Saler, Valencia, in the area surrounding the La Albufera natural park.

The Emergency Coordination Centre has confirmed that the beaches have been cleaned, including the Gola de Puchol area, and that a waste removal trip was carried out this afternoon and a final one is planned for tomorrow morning. Until then, Situation 0 remains active.
