Actor Denzel Washington has been wearing a cap for a decade. The change from before is significant.
Gladiator 2 star Denzel Washington has said Esquire magazine in the cover photo interview about his alcohol use. In his own words, Washington stopped drinking at age 60 after 15 wet years.
Washington consumed alcohol daily, and especially wine in abundance. In the late 1990s, the successful actor had a wine cellar of 10,000 bottles in his home, so there was no shortage of selection.
“Wine was my thing and I could top $4,000 bottles because there was nothing left,” Washington confessed.
The actor, also known from Training Day, could order a couple of bottles of quality wine to his home. When the wife wondered why it was always only two, Denzel Washington said he couldn’t order more or he would drink it all.
“So I always only ordered two bottles and drank them both during the day”.
As is often the case with alcoholics, Denzel Washington didn’t see his drinking as a problem because he got his work done and, on top of that, focused only on quality drinks. Since then, the actor has noticed how he deceived himself.
“I have done a lot of damage to my body. Let’s see what comes of it. I have been sober in December for 10 years.”
Gladiator 2 just hit theaters. Denzel Washington will next be seen in Spike Lee’s High and Low, a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller.
