The outrageously expensive PlayStation 5 Pro is official

After several months of leaks, Sony has officially unveiled a new version of its current console, the PlayStation 5, with more powerful hardware, which is called the Pro and will probably boost sales of the gaming machine. The PS5 Pro adds a lot to the performance of the original console in three areas: it got a more powerful GPU, improved ray-tracing, and thanks to the AI-driven upscaling, it was also possible to make significant progress visually based on the promises.

The console update remained faithful to the slim design of its predecessor in appearance, but the guess was confirmed that this model already has a pluggable optical drive, so those who want to run disc games will have to purchase the element separately.

According to Mark Cerny, lead architect, this is Sony’s most powerful console ever, and the machine richly deserves this title with the fact that thanks to the updates, 45 percent faster rendering was achieved, which means that games are displayed in significantly more detail at a higher framerate.

The CPU remains, but it can now work at 3.85 GHz instead of 3.5, which is a 10 percent increase. In addition, the new console has a 67 percent larger GPU and a 2TB SSD. The Pro also brings Sony’s new AI-powered PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is essentially an upscaling technique similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR to improve the framerate and image quality of games.

All this will not be cheap: the machine will be available on November 7 for 699.99 dollars/799.99 euros, which can be converted to 400,000 forints, if the VAT also figures out the net price.

After the PlayStation 5 was launched on the market, the turnover of the first years of the gaming machine was basically determined by the shortage of chips accompanying the coronavirus epidemic, but sales picked up later, and now almost 55 million copies of the Japanese company’s console machine have been sold. However, according to Sony’s expectations, sales have already reached their peak.

The appearance of the PS5 Pro, which, together with an A+ category title, can give a boost to sales again – analysts believe. One of the most anticipated video games of the decade, Grand Theft Auto franchise VI, is scheduled to be released next year. episode, which will probably make the PS5, which was originally launched in 2020, sweat more than ever, so it will be time to bring the Pro variant to the market.

The immediate predecessor of the console, the PS4, hit the stores at the end of 2013 – a Pro version of this model was also made, the biggest innovation of which was 4K support thanks to increased graphics performance. The PS4 Pro went on sale in November 2016, three years after the market premiere of the PS4.
