The participants’ anger in “Buying a house blindly” – Carin da Silva’s response

In TV3’s “Husköp i blindo”, the participants leave their house search in the hands of the program’s experts, who are given free rein to buy them a home. The only catch is that the participants have no idea at all which house will be theirs.

Season 2 of “Buying a House Blindly”

It’s the real estate agent Sebastian Stojanovic which, based on the requirements of the participants, tries to offer families the perfect house. Afterwards, the participants get to see the inside of the house, and most often the reactions are very doubtful at this stage. Then the interior design expert gives Lena Nyman the house a makeover, something that usually makes the participants see the home in a completely new light.

Program host Carin da Silva on “Buying a house blindly”

On October 8, the second season of “Husköp i blindo” premiered on TV3, and just like before, it’s none other than Carin da Silva who is the presenter. For News24 she tells everything about the new episodes, and about the strong feelings that arise.

What can we expect from season two of “Huskup i blindo”?

– We can expect lots of lovely interior design, strong colours, lovely characters and above all lots and lots of emotions.

– Imagine yourself if you hand over all your money to some strangers who will then make the biggest purchase of your life and you don’t even get to see it. So there is a lot of anxiety but also a lot of joy.

It feels like the vast majority of people get more or less a little panicked. How is this season?

– It is the same this season as well. But that’s a bit of the point. Sometimes it feels like some of the participants haven’t really understood the concept. The first time they look at the house, they feel: “But God, it looks awful”. But it is now that the decorators will begin to work their magic.

Have there been any participants who have wanted to drop out when they get to see the house before the renovation?

– Most of them. But then when they get to see the finished result, most people are of course super satisfied.

How do you handle it as a presenter when you notice that they are getting a little stressed and scared?

– What is important to us is to convey that we are on their side. After all, we’re not doing this to put someone there or for there to be some crunch. We want it to be as good as possible. After all, it’s still a TV show, so you want to have these strong emotions.

– Then of course I’ll be there and support as program manager. But you still want to see the genuine feelings. I don’t want to calm them down too much the first time you see the house, but you want the emotional storms.

The couple tried to sell their house after the show

In the vast majority of cases, the participants are overjoyed when they see the finished result, and after Lena Nyman has decorated the new home. But in season one, there were actually a couple who were very skeptical – even after the renovation of the house.

In the first season, the couple was Iman and Hani from Örebro in search of his dream house, with a budget of SEK 5.5 million. Finally, the experts found a house for the couple, but when they got to see the villa, they were anything but satisfied. During the first tour of the house, they were so dissatisfied that they expressed that they regretted their participation in the program.

How did you feel as a presenter at that moment?

– First of all, they know what they are getting into. It can be like that when you buy a house yourself, even if you make all the decisions yourself, it can be that it wasn’t completely 100%. And it can be like that here too. You don’t know that. But I think we really did the best we could, says Carin da Silva and continues:

– That’s what some people forget too. After all, we have their budget, we can’t troll. It’s not like: “Move that bus!”, and then we’ve built a completely new house. It’s real money. So I think some of the participants might have had a little too high hopes that we had been able to troll more than we could actually do. But as I said, most people were super satisfied of course.

A year after filming, in October 2023, the house was put up for sale. In an interview with SVT News Örebro the couple also strongly criticized the program.
