Google is playing a funny game with its Pixel 9 Pro. Faced with a deluge of leaks, the tech giant decides to take the lead.
In tech, keeping a secret seems to have become mission impossible. Google knows something about it! A few weeks before the big reveal of its Pixel 9 range, the Mountain View giant finds itself, as usual, drowning in a deluge of leaks. But this time, rather than playing the ostrich, Google decided to take the lead by offering us an official preview of the highly anticipated Pixel 9 Pro.
We can easily imagine the Google teams in their offices. They are working hard on the next smartphone that will revolutionize the market (at least, that’s what they hope). And then bam! You wake up one morning and discover that your baby is already on all the tech sites, analyzed from every angle. Frustrating, right?
This is exactly what happened with the Pixel 9 Pro and the entire associated range. In fact, it happens every year at Google. Videos hands-on (read “hands-on” for the uninitiated) have leaked, showing the phone from all angles. We even got some comparisons with other recent smartphones. In short, the secret is out.
Faced with this situation, the company had two options: continue to bury its head in the sand or take the bull by the horns. And this is where it gets interesting: Google chose the second option, turning what could have been a disaster into a marketing opportunity.
The art of teasing according to Google
Rather than let the rumors swell, Google decided to take back control of the narrative. How? By publishing a teaser video which shows… well, not much actually. Just a quick look at the Pixel 9 Pro, just to whet our curiosity.
The company plays it smart by mentioning that AI and Gemini (its artificial intelligence model) will play a major role in the device.
And for those who want even more, Google even offers to register on its online store to receive exclusive information on the Pixel 9 Pro.
Now that Google has taken over, all that’s left is to wait for the big day. And that day is August 13! The company is planning an event at its headquarters in California to tell us more about the Pixel 9 lineup and other upcoming devices.
But wait, there’s a twist! Regulatory documents and other leaks (nothing stops leakers) suggest that Google won’t just be showing off one or two models. No, we’re talking FOUR phones: the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and… drum roll… the Pixel 9 Pro Fold! Yes, you read that right, Google is also reportedly getting into the foldable smartphone business (in France, this time).
