A Southwest Airlines plane, which was preparing to take off at the American airport Dallas Love Field late on Friday, was hit by a bullet. The plane then returned to the flight gate. The incident did not result in injuries.

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was scheduled to depart for Indianapolis when a bullet apparently struck the right side of the aircraft, just below the flight deck, as the crew was preparing to take off,” an airline spokesman said.
The aircraft has been taken out of service and the incident is under investigation. According to the airport, the incident occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. local time (4:50 a.m. CET). The Dallas police and fire department immediately arrived at the scene.
The passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and then transferred to the next flight to Indianapolis. Details about where the bullet might have come from, or the exact circumstances of the incident, were not immediately known. The flight path where the incident occurred was briefly closed.
