THE PLANET, in global danger! The effects of the global climate crisis and finding solutions to limit the negative impact on ecosystems and society are topics that appear very often on the public agenda.

Mihai Dima, professor at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest, says that national and international reports show that in the last 70 years, heat waves have intensified, a fact that affects the planet irreversibly.

All processes are reversible

“In general, those who are not familiar with the scientific aspects of climate change probably imagine that it can be reversed. Things don’t work that way. If it were so, that would mean that the processes are all reversible, that is, we can rewind them, as they happened before”, explains the professor.

It is not excluded that part of the shell breaks

“And perhaps the simplest example of a critical component, we could think of the Antarctic ice sheet. Part of it, the one on the eastern side, has its base in water, in the ocean, and due to global warming, it is not excluded that a part of the cap will break off and reach the ocean. Obviously, breaking is an irreversible process, because, once detached, it will not stick back to the big skull. So the process is irreversible”, says Mihai Dima.

THE PLANET, in global danger! According to a State of the Climate report released today, cities are becoming hotter and drier than rural areas, with temperature differences of up to 8°C, according to RRA.
