The police are starting a huge raid – These places will be checked

The police are prepared for the summer period, in order to prevent possible crimes, they are guarding the safety of the beaches and open-water bathing places with an intensive police presence, said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior (BM) at the press conference held on Palatinus beach on Wednesday.

Bence Rétvári pointed out that police officers visit the beaches several times a day, and school guards are also present at summer camps during vacations.

According to the State Secretary, it is important for the police to be there in all areas of life, “because this is how we can make Hungary one of the safest countries in Europe”. He added that since 2010, the number of crimes in Hungary has decreased by more than 60 percent, thanks to the fact that the police are doing increasingly effective work in the field of prevention and detection.

Bence Rétvári also drew attention to individual responsibility. He called it important that bathers use the safes located on beaches and waterfronts, and not just cover their valuables with a towel. He added: at home, the best protection against sneaking thieves is to always close the doors and windows carefully.

We ask everyone to pay attention to where they put their valuables, so that the holiday is really about spending time without forgetting

– stated the state secretary, noting that the police will provide all assistance for this.

He also touched on the fact that children staying at home alone during the summer holidays may be exposed to dangers in the online space, which parents must pay extra attention to in order to ensure their children’s safety.

Police lieutenant colonel Balázs Varga, an employee of the Crime Prevention Department of the National Police Headquarters (ORFK), noted that the police pay special attention to summer safety. He added that the police “cannot be there for every child”, but they support parents laying down rules for their children in their protection.

Regarding the dangers at home, he said that care must be taken to ensure that the child does not give out data or send photos online. And with older children, you should always discuss with whom and where they go to have fun, as well as how they can solve the safe journey home from the entertainment venue, he explained.

The lieutenant colonel noted: according to their experience, people are becoming more aware, and it is becoming less common to leave their valuables in a visible place.

He also emphasized: in order to avoid accidents, you should never enter waters marked with a prohibited sign, because it can be life-threatening even for good swimmers. Last year, 108 people lost their lives due to water-related drowning, and this year 55 people died in such an accident, he added.

László Makra, the legal director of Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévizei (BGYH) Zrt., stated that the police are present in increased numbers in the Budapest spas based on their agreement with the BRFK, but the work of the police is supplemented by an external security company.

He also indicated: there is a camera system in the public areas of the beaches and spas, but at the same time it is also the responsibility of the guests to take care of their valuables.

The legal director asked people to always seek help from beach staff in case of an accident or feeling unwell.
