On Wednesday, the police intervened in a security incident at the gymnasium on Grösslingová street in Bratislava. Student Simon Omaník also attends the gymnasium, and in recent days he became visible by refusing to shake the hand of President Petr Pellgrini.

The unknown woman was said to have entered into a verbal and physical conflict with the school janitor. The police have started a criminal investigation in the matter of rioting, informed the spokesman of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Bratislava, Michal Szeiff.

As the spokesman specified, the patrol was sent to the Bratislava gymnasium shortly after 3:30 p.m. based on a report of aggressive behavior by an unknown woman. “The person also behaved vulgarly towards other persons present at the time, and after the arrival of the PZ patrol, his aggressive behavior turned towards the policemen as well,” he specified.

Szeiff clarified that the police used coercive measures against the woman and restricted her personal freedom. “Subsequently, they escorted her to the police department for the purpose of carrying out further actions,” he added.

On Monday, President Peter Pellegrini and Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker presented awards to students who won in the international Olympics. Among the awarded students was Simon Omaník. He refused to shake the hand of the head of state Peter Pellegrini while accepting the award.

Several high-ranking state officials reacted to the situation, including the president himself and Prime Minister Robert Fico. The Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker is humanly sorry for the incident. “I regret that this act has become a subject of politics, personally because I systematically and constantly fight for education not to be a subject of politics,” said Drucker.
