The Porsche 928 still knows how to amaze. So

The conversions of Porsche for purposes other than going fast on the track or on the road are now the order of the day. Without going immediately outside the confines of Zuffenhausen, in fact, even the company itself in recent years has created some truly unique projects – see 911 Dakar – starting from the idea of some customers who have requested some preparations ad hoc for some specific purposes.

Among the most popular projects today there are certainly those that involve the use of raised suspension to be able to use the special cars on any terrain, as in the case of the 928 Surfers which you can see in these photos. Here is his story.

An iconic car

The history of the 928 Surfers It began many years ago on the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea, in Hel, when a father and son decided to open a campsite dedicated to some specific sports activities such as surf: a passion they share, along with a love for fast cars and Porsches.

The years pass and the campsite passes into the hands of Tadeusz Elwartson of the owner and current manager of Camping Chałupy 6, as well as the initiator of theHel Riders Festivala real celebration for European surfers, who inherited his father’s passion for Porsches, a passion so strong that he decided to give life to a special idea: the 928 Surfari that you can see in the photo.

The enthusiast’s goal? To create a Porsche capable of tackling the most challenging off-road terrain and carrying its occupants – and their boards surf – to the seaside in style.

Unique, unusual and seemingly impossible to achieve: what to many seemed an insurmountable challenge, for the Hel Riders team was an encouragement.

A Porsche 928 already present in Elwart’s collection was chosen as the basis for the project, equipped with an engine V8 and apparently perfect to become a real beach “buggy”.

A team of experts

The project was entirely supervised by Tomasz Staniszewsk, a Polish engineer and rally driver, who a few months earlier had completed the Rally Dakar Classic with his self-built Porsche 924. In terms of design, all the adaptations were made by the Lange twins, two brothers who have been part of the Camping Chałupy 6 team for decades.

After the debut at the Hel Riders Festival, Elwart traveled to the German island of Sylt for the famous Petro Surf Festival and then to the island of Rømø in Denmark. The trip proved to be the perfect opportunity to test the surf mobile thoroughly.
