Their countries are formally still in a state of war and there is only a ceasefire. In this case, politics went sideways at the Olympics in Paris. Table tennis players from South and North Korea had fun, laughed and even took selfies together at the medal ceremony.

Table tennis players from China, North and South Korea take a selfie together after the medal ceremony.
China dominated the mixed doubles tournament, Ri Chong-sik and Kim Kum-jong from the DPRK finished second, and the South Korean pair Lim Chong-hun and Sin Ju-pin won the bronze. When receiving the medals, there were also friendly conversations, which the six finally ended with a joint photo.
This would not be unusual unless North and South Korea were still formally at war. The peace treaty was never signed. While the South Korean table tennis players are apparently not threatened with any punishment, the question is how the communist regime in the DPRK will react to the act of friendship of its athletes.
Ukraine and Russia are also at war, although not only formally. While the athletes of the attacked country compete in the Olympic Games without any restrictions, the Russians are only allowed to do so under strict conditions under a neutral flag.
But it is practically impossible that they would laugh and take selfies together. And it would be the same for athletes from Israel and Palestine.
