Apple’s very recent MacBook Pro 14 M4 is naturally sold, in normal times, at a very high price. This ultra-powerful machine is fortunately cheaper during these winter sales: Amazon is offering it at 1,749 euros instead of 1,899 euros.
Noticeable increase in performance, finishes as impeccable as ever, screen as bright as possible, impressive battery life… There’s no denying it: Apple’s MacBook Pro M4 is a real success. The only downside is obviously this still high price, but fortunately this one is getting lighter during the winter sales.

An old design that still works
You don’t change a winning team at Apple, and it is therefore an unchanged design since 2021 that we obtain with this MacBook Pro 14 M4. At the same time, it’s hard to blame the brand for keeping this very solid aluminum unibody chassis and these impeccable finishes. In terms of weight, this MacBook Pro weighs 1.55 kg, so it is much heavier than the MacBook Air ultrabook. But remember that the Pro model integrates an efficient cooling system, better connectivity and a large battery; you need space for all of this. The only downside to this design: this notch, which is still not very discreet…
This chassis also integrates connectivity which has finally been enriched. We are now entitled to three USB-C ports, Thunderbolt 4 compatible, an HDMI 2.1 port, a full-format SD reader, a jack and the MagSafe 3 connector. We can finally connect two 6K screens in addition to the internal screen. On the other hand, no Wi-Fi 7 here, too bad… Concerning its screen, the MacBook Pro M4 has a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR panel, whose mini-LED technology promises perfect blacks and almost infinite contrast. We don’t miss OLED here. The definition of 3,024 x 1,964 pixels offers excellent sharpness.
In terms of brightness, Apple pulled out all the stops: on HDR content, we measured it at 1,564 cd/m² on a 25% window and at 1,081 cd/m² in full screen. The colorimetric coverage is perfect, to the delight of creatives. Let’s not forget the ProMotion adaptive refresh rate (24-120 Hz), which provides remarkable fluidity, while preserving battery life.
Power to spare
In the bowels of the MacBook Pro 14, there is an M4 chip, perfectly suited to demanding daily use with its 10-core processor, which offers an excellent compromise for classic productivity, web development and even light video editing in 4K, as well as its 10-core GPU. We would still have liked a unified memory greater than 16 GB. Those looking for more power will turn to the model equipped with an M4 Pro chip, but be aware that the M4 will be sufficient for 80% of users, even for quite demanding tasks. On the storage side, a 512 GB SSD takes place here, and its sequential read and write speeds are very good. Responsiveness will therefore be essential. Note also the effectiveness of the active cooling system, a big advantage of the MacBook Pro over the Air.
Finally, in terms of endurance, the MacBook Pro M4 works wonders and manages to reach 15 hours of battery life without problem. On our test model, with an M4 Pro chip, the MacBook Pro was able to last 21 hours and 12 minutes with a brightness of 200 nits. In terms of charging, a 30-minute charge is enough to recover 50% of the battery.
