Members of the city police in Prague 4, who went on a routine inspection of an abandoned building, were in for an unprecedented surprise: In the building, which has been uninhabited for a long time, they discovered a hot water leak from the heat exchanger and a group of homeless people who had taken up residence there. The space was full of personal belongings, a group of four (three men and a woman between the ages of 28 and 38) apparently lived in the building for a long time.
That in itself wouldn’t have been all that strange, but the officers’ jaws really dropped when they went down to the basement and found a makeshift bath that the homeless had made out of an inflatable pool. They fed the aforementioned hot water into it through plastic pipes, which they adjusted with a water elbow and sealed with the sleeve of their sweatshirts. Plastic films then took care of insulation and heat retention.
The problem in this case lies mainly in the long-term bad communication with the owner of the building, whose responsibility is to secure the building, but he does not particularly get involved. None of the homeless people present were wanted for a crime, but the case was taken over by the Police of the Czech Republic, which will investigate the situation further.
