The precedent that gives shivers to the tricolors

Romania is awaiting UEFA’s decision regarding the result of the game with Kosovo, played on Friday, November 15 in Bucharest and abandoned in the 92nd minute, as a result of the fact that the guests left the field and refused to return from the booths.

The Danish referee Morten Krogh, completely overwhelmed by the situation, which is why he will very likely receive a time-out from UEFA, blew the final whistle only an hour after the Kosovars withdrew, although the regulation clearly stated that he should have done so after 15 minutes.

As the guests decided to repeat the gesture made a year ago, then after seeing a banner in the stands with the message Kosovo e Serbia, the referee and the UEFA observer had to wait for the eventual return to the field for only 15 minutes. The motivation of the Kosovars this time is one sewn with white thread, it being obvious that they premeditated the exit from the field. That’s because in the 92nd minute they could only win by 1-0, not enough to move to first place. Only a 3-0 victory on the green table could turn the group hierarchy in their favor.

The misfortune is that all the accusations of the Kosovars are simple inventions, the public in Bucharest being downright exemplary. Only in those hot final sequences, with several Kosovar players challenging to the max by deliberately positioning their hands to mimic the wings of the Albanian eagle, did ours react. It was shouted, but only a few spectators, Serbia-Serbia and the behavior under any criticism of the guests continued with obscene gestures, with a sexual tone, in front of the children and women in the stands.

UEFA has all the arguments to give us a 3-0 victory on the green table and the Kosovars know this too. Who are not waiting for the turnaround from UEFA but from TAS, where they will go if they lose. And there we have reason to worry, because there is an extremely dangerous precedent for us.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne rejected the Serbian federation’s appeal regarding the October 14, 2014 Euro 2016 qualifier against Albania, which was suspended due to incidents, and ruled that the Albanian national team should receive the 3-0 victory on the green table .

The CAS partially accepted an appeal filed by the Albanian federation in relation to this match, after the UEFA Appeals Committee confirmed in December a decision by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body of the European forum, according to which Serbia was declared the winner by 3 -0, but without receiving the related points.

The Lausanne forum stated that the decisions of the UEFA committees were based on the fact that the Albanian team had refused to continue the game after the incidents ended, while the CAS concluded that there was no evidence that the Albanians refused to play after the referee asked them to continue the game.

“CAS was unable to satisfactorily verify that the referee gave the players a clear, direct and unconditional order to continue the match based on a final decision that the footballers were safe.

The CAS found that the interruption and then suspension of the match were caused by gaps in the organizers’ security measures and acts of violence by Serbian fans and at least one steward towards the Albanian players.

Thus, TAS considers that the Serbian and not the Albanian federation should be considered responsible for the fact that the match was suspended”, it is stated on the website of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
