President Alar Karis on Tuesday, July 16, gave Kristen Michal (Reform Party) the authority to form a new government, appointing him as a candidate for prime minister.
The head of state made this decision after he met with representatives of all six parties represented in the current parliament the day before, reports rus.err.ee.
Michal now has 14 days to present a report to the Riigikogu on the principles for forming the future government and to obtain the support of the parliament.
As head of government, Kristen Michal will replace the leader of the Reform Party, Kaja Kallas, who led the cabinet since January 2021 and resigned the day before, hoping to take up the post of head of European diplomacy.
The Reformists are currently in coalition negotiations with the Social Democratic Party and Eesti 200.
