The price of e-cars has approached the price of gasoline ones

The prices of electric and classic cars in Germany are converging, but electric cars are still more expensive. In October, the gap between the two types of 20 leading models narrowed significantly.

According to data from the new edition of the regular price analysis of the Institute for Car Market Research (CAR), the average price of an e-car was 39,800 euros, 6,600 more than the one with a gasoline engine.

Is the difference 920 euros less than the previous month?

“Electric cars are getting cheaper,” said CAR analyst Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, estimating that the trend will continue in the coming months, primarily due to stricter regulations on CO2 emissions.

Manufacturers, namely, adjust their pricing policy to regulations. Because of this, some important models of e-cars, such as the Opel Corsa, Mini Cooper and Tesla 3, have already become cheaper.

On the other hand, sellers are less likely to give discounts on electric cars. Thus, buyers of gasoline cars can get a rebate of 16.5 percent, and 12.6 percent for electric cars.

CAR takes only the transaction price for its calculation, i.e. what customers actually pay when buying new cars.
