The procedure for introducing the 5G network in Serbia has begun

The Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Dejan Ristić, marked the beginning of the procedure for introducing the 5G network in Serbia today in Novi Sad.

“On the website of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, the proposal of the Rulebook on the minimum criteria for the introduction of 5G has just been published, and it is open to public discussion for 30 days from today,” said the minister at the panel “Smart infrastructure for connecting cities of the future” at the Novi Sad fair, organized Ninamedia and the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad.

As he explained, after that he will sign that rulebook and thereby establish the minimum criteria. After that, RATEL conducts an international auction and from May next year, 5G will be introduced gradually throughout the territory of Serbia.

Ristić reminded that the first 5G in Europe was officially introduced in Serbia, in the Science and Technology Park on Zvezdara ten years ago, but then it was stopped for analysis by domestic and foreign experts.

“We just chose this event to show how important education is to us, and we made a joke about Friday the 13th to show that it doesn’t have to be a bad day,” said Ristić.

The minister announced the drafting of the Nact law on broadband infrastructure, which will include the latest directives and regulations of the European Union and international standards.

He also added that the relevant ministry is bringing to an end the first phase of the introduction of broadband Internet in Serbia, and the introduction of the Internet via optical cable, which covers about 1,500 kilometers and 300 settlements and will be completed next year.

“These are rural areas and we are currently making the final preparations for the second phase, which will cover 4,000 kilometers and 600 rural settlements, which means that where commercial operators have no interest in introducing internet and mobile telephony, the state will do so,” specified Ristić.
