The program for editing photos and videos is drastically INCREASING due to AI functions
The price of some Canva subscriptions will rise dramatically next year, following the company’s aggressive rollout of generative AI features. Global users of Canva Teams, a subscription aimed at business users that supports adding more users, can expect prices to increase by more than 300 percent in some cases.
Canva, on the other hand, claims that the increase is justified by the “expanded product experience” and the value that generative AI tools have added to the platform.
In the US, some Canva Teams users are reporting increases in subscriptions from $120 a year for up to five users to a whopping $500 a year. A 40 percent discount will be applied to bring the price down to $300 for the first 12 months. In Australia, Information Age reports, the flat fee of A$39.99 (about US$26) per month for five users rises to A$40.50 per user. That means a team of five users will go from paying AU$480 (about US$323) to AU$2,430 (about US$1,636) per year.
Some of these accounts were locked in at lower prices that Canva no longer offers. In April, the company quietly changed its offer for new Teams subscribers to $10 per month per user, with a minimum requirement of three users.
Now Canva’s head of communications, Luisa Green, says existing customers will also be moved to this structure in September “to reflect the current plan price and value of our expanded product experience.”
“Our product portfolio has grown significantly over the past few years with the launch of new offerings such as Visual Suite and Magic Studio,” Green told The Verge.
Canva significantly expanded the possibilities for users
Canva has introduced a number of generative AI features over the past few years, such as the Magic Media text-to-image generator and the Magic Expand tool for expanding backgrounds. These additions transformed the platform from something aimed at design and marketing professionals into a broader workspace offering.
Although Canva has publicly announced similar price changes in the past, the latest price increases appear to have been communicated exclusively via emails to users. Other subscription tiers for Pro and Enterprise users do not appear to be affected by these changes.
The premium pricing represents a sharp turnaround for Canva, which was once seen as a simple and affordable alternative to more expensive graphic design software from Adobe. Online Canva users have condemned the price hikes, with some announcing they will cancel their subscriptions and switch to Adobe apps.
These huge price increases also come after Canva bought the company behind the Affinity creative software suite for what is reported to be “several hundred million pounds.”
