The prosecutor’s office has grown by 41 percent since 2018

The prosecutor’s office continues to grow about as fast as the young immigrant population in Sweden. Since 2018, the authority has almost doubled.

Domestic. The prosecutor’s office grew by 41 percent between 2018 and 2023, reports Today’s Law.

At the same time, the number of people prosecuted for so-called “particularly resource-demanding crimes”, such as murder, rape and serious drug crimes, increased by 10 percent.

Over the years, the authority has received significant resource contributions from taxpayers. The grants increased from SEK 1,519 million at the beginning of the period to SEK 2,303 million this year.

However, the number of prosecutors is not increasing as quickly. Since 2018, the number of prosecutors has increased by 321 people to 1,269 employed prosecutors in total.
