The Prosecutor’s Office is prosecuting an alleged member of the Islamic State, Rashid Aziz, for terrorism

The specialized public prosecutor’s office in Slovenia accuses the arrested Rašid Aziz of the crime of terrorism, as he allegedly participated in the terrorist organization Islamic State in Iraq in 2016. The accused pleaded not guilty at the pre-trial hearing at the Ljubljana District Court.

In the middle of October, a preliminary hearing was announced at the Ljubljana District Court for Rashida Aziz, charged with the crime of terrorism. As Dnevnik reports, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The specialized prosecutor’s office replied to the newspaper’s inquiries that, based on the March criminal complaint and then after the investigation, on August 27, an indictment was filed against one natural person for the crime of terrorism. This person is said to have participated in the terrorist organization Islamic State in Iraq in 2016. She is accused of a criminal act under the article that talks about participation in a terrorist criminal group or group, and the threatened sentence for this act is up to eight years in prison.

The police announced that last year and this year, three criminal charges against three suspects were filed with the prosecutor’s office for terrorism. They are men aged 21 to 42. They cannot disclose other information, as the (pre)criminal proceedings are still ongoing.

According to the statistics office, three people have been convicted of terrorism in the last ten years. Two were sentenced to prison, and one was given a security measure, the newspaper also writes.
