The rapper from Montreuil once again crowned champion of album sales in France in 2024

Undethroned! For the second year in a row, Ile-de-France rapper Werenoi dominates, ahead of PLK and Indochina, the podium for album sales in France in 2024, the National Phonographic Publishing Union (Snep) announced on Thursday January 9, 2025.

“With 18 of the 20 best album sales in 2024, the public favors the projects of artists produced in France – and singing in French – all generations and all musical styles combined, with a special mention for rap which dominates the top of this ranking », summarized Snep in a press release.

Werenoi, rapper from Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), thus confirms his dazzling success at the head of this Top albums, carried by the title Pyramid 2, but also by Carréan opus awarded a Flame in April 2024.

Winning comeback for Indochina

PLK, another French rapper with Polish origins, takes second place thanks to Room 140a dense mixtape in three parts. The third step goes to Indochine, the pop rock group led by Nicola Sirkis who comes back strong with their double album Babylon Babylonwhich he will defend on a tour from the end of January 2025.

The Marseille UFO Jul has registered eight projects – as in 2023 – in this annual ranking… but it does not rise higher than 10th place, while it reached 6th position a year previously.

Piano and bangers

Also note the supremacy of pianist Sofiane Pamart, who dominates the podium of Top Classique, one of the Snep rankings by musical genre.

On the streaming side, 138 billion streams were recorded last year (+ 14%), notably thanks to “bangers”, these songs that make you want to move: Spiderfrom the Gims-Dystinct duo, Little Geniusfrom Jungeli with his troop and Imaginefrom the Carbonne revelation.

Underrepresented women

Female artists remain underrepresented at the top of the rankings, despite the performances of Billie Eilish (4th), Zaho de Sagazan (6th) and superstar Taylor Swift (9th).

In the Top 200, a broader picture of the musical landscape, “41 projects are female, or a little more than one album in five”, noted Snep, seeing it as an “encouraging development” calling for “to be strengthened” .
